If you want to see what it means to take care of a dog in the shelter, we invite you with us to the pens in two locations outside Brașov. We go to the pens during the week usually in the afternoon or on the weekend in the morning, but each volunteer comes whenever they can. It is not an obligation, but a wonderful opportunity to spend free time in the company of puppies, with the satisfaction of helping them.
What do you need?
You don't have to bring anything but good will and energy. We have everything you need and we also provide a car.
But it is recommended that you bring a change of clothes, because it is very likely that you will get dirty or get wet playing with the dogs. And if you also have some rain boots (wellies), don't hesitate to take them with you!
Why do we need volunteers?
The more of us, the better for them. We always make sure they have clean shelter, food and water, but our time is limited and by ourselves cannot give them what they really lack: human affection. As much as we would like, what we can do is not enough and it is unfair to them. But with your help we can finish the necessary chores faster and we can offer them together with you real moments of joy.
What do we do?
Dogs are taken out to play in groups, to exercise and to enjoy petting and pampering. Even if they live in pens, they need a good play time or quiet moments ourside their pens and the joy of having the love we offer.
As long as they enjoy running with the others or to lie in the sun, depending on each one's preferences, we clean in the pens, clean the dirt, wash their food bowls, put clean bedding and fresh water in the buckets.
Then we come to the long-awaited moment: pets and kisses for dogs and playtime with them.
Then, when the playtime is over, our dogs return to their pens and each of them receives their share of food.
If you think that the moment of departure is difficult, you are right. After a few hours spent in their company, it is difficult to close the gate and leave. It is heartbreaking to hear some of them crying when you leave. But the joy you offered was indescribable. So please do not hesitate if you anticipate the emotions that will put you to the test. To them, what we do is an infinite gift. Dogs will always reward you with their love and gratitude. You can be a hero in their eyes.
